All you need to know about Physie!!

What is PHYSIE?

Physie (BJP Physical Culture) is the ultimate fusion of dance styles; modern dance, jazz, ballet, contemporary, aerobic dance and exercise. The innovative choreography changes annually and is designed for maximum variety and fun!

The superb combination of movements are choreographed age appropriately and performed to modern music. Each syllabus tailored for all ages and experiences.

What do you do in a Physie Class?

As Physie combines many dance genres into the one fun filled syllabus, we don't always get to dance every dance style each and every class, but we do try to always combine a mix of styles into every lesson, so it is full of variety, energy and lots of fun.

Each class is designed to see you improve a little every week across different areas of Physie. We cater for all different experiences and ability levels. Persistence is the key in the younger age groups... sometimes children are shy and will just stand and watch until they are comfortable to participate, some will take a little longer than others to master different skills and techniques. So please keep coming back and encourage the participation, each child will develop in their own time and throughout that journey is supported and encourage in her class.

I'm learning great dance routines in class...what is next?

Physie is a competition-based sport and the routines learnt in class are intended to be performed in competitions. Whilst competitions aren't compulsory, we highly encourage participation. Physie is a sport like netball... if you join a netball team, you don't just go to training, you play the game! Physie competitions are essentially "playing the game" as our classes are our team age groups that we train with.

Physie prides itself on providing competitions that are wonderful experiences for all competitors, they build confidence in a very safe, comfortable and positive environment, so please don't be concerned or hesitant to participate, you and your child will enjoy the experience.

Sounds like fun? It sure is! And there are many benefits of participating; you will notice in self-confidence, delivers a great sense of achievement, builds team spirit and camaraderie, you meet lots of new friends from other clubs, develops your performance skills and confidence in front of an audience which is so important during a child's schooling, not to mention how much fun it is to perform with your team mates.

Physie Competitions & Performances

How many comps & performances are there each season?

There are 6 events each year... 1 x non-competitive, 4 x comps and 1 x team event. A schedule of events is provided by head office in June, below is a summary of events.

Family night - For everyone A non-competitive performance (usually the last week of term 2 instead of our normal class), to showcase to our families and friends the wonderful routines we have learnt throughout the first half of the season.

Interclubs x 2 - End of July/August: There are two Interclub Competitions each year, which are fantastic comps for beginners, because they offer events for beginners/novice students. Lots of fun and medals for everyone!

Club Day - Our annual Club Day is a special competition amongst just our club members. It's a special day for our club!

Zone Competition -  For 5 years & up: This is the first official BJP Competition of the season. The competitors take a heat, semi and final and the competitors who make the top 5 have qualified for the National Competition which is held in November at Olympic Park for Juniors & Ladies.

Team Competition - 5 years & up: This is the best event of the year and one to definitely be a part of! In teams of 8 per age group the girls perform together, we work towards teams in classes as it such an important element of sport is learning to work with others. There is a great sense of achievement and pride when the team takes the floor and performs their routines.
